Your only way out

A poem from desperate times

Another sure thing

That never came through,

Your only way out

Didn’t happen for you.

Another ‘if only’

Hindsight’s a curse,

The best course of action

That made matters worse.

The fair weather friends

Who ran to your side,

Have come to collect

And your hands are tied.

You can’t raise your head

Can’t meet their gaze,

Deadlines are pressing

And your pay is delayed.

The woman you love

Has seen your demise,

She’s still by your side

With no love in her eyes.

The things that she wanted

You used to provide,

But pain changes everything

It’s time to decide.

Do you never give in?

Sure you won’t let them down,

Or will they be better of

When you’re not around?

There’s just enough rope

To fashion a noose,

You have to keep trying

Then again, what’s the use?
