And all I wanted was to write about Palestine…
I wanted to write an article about Israel’s insistence that they only fire missiles at military targets, even though it seems like the world has finally woken up and realised that’s complete bullshit. The other tired old tripe is that Hamas uses Palestinian civilians as human shields (that’s bullshit too). But I won’t write about that, because there are far better journalists than me doing it.
Mark Steel, writing for The Independent, penned the brilliant article ‘Missiles have been launched ‘by both sides’ in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict — let’s take a closer look at that’. The article does a great job of underlining the absolute absurdity of Israel’s excuses for levelling residential buildings and killing civilians. Some of the highlights from Steel’s article are below.
“The Israeli army refers to the deaths of 227 civilians as “unfortunate, unintended civilian casualties”. And it is terrible, unfortunate and unintended bad luck to go about your lawful business of blowing up a high rise residential building, only to discover there were residents in there.”
