Member-only story
With a lot of beer
I managed not to drink tonight
It’s a pyrrhic victory,
My favorite jeans are getting tight
They keep reminding me.
How slim I was and how much fun
I had with my old friends,
And I was not the only one
Who needed to pretend.
That everything is just as good
And everything is swell,
I’m living as a good man should
But it’s a living Hell.
It’s not so bad I’m being dramatic
It’s just a figure of speech
I’ve put the bottle in the attic
So it’s a little out of reach.
My mother says when she reflects
On all the sacrifices
She has absolutely no regrets
Because what she is suffices.
Maybe if I just resolve
Good things will appear
But some problems are swiftly solved
With a lot of beer.
