What is an Alpha Male?
Does anybody really know?
Alpha males have influence, alpha males are irresistible to women, alpha males have power, alpha males have charisma!
Bla bla bla.
I’ve see the term alpha male thrown around on the internet for a couple of years now, and I’ve heard some people talk about alpha males, but nobody seems to agree what an alpha male is. It seems to be a generic term for that certain type of individual that other men might want to be.
For the first time today, somebody I know (and respect) used the term ‘alpha male’ in a conversation. He said he’d been listening to podcasts about alpha males. I listened to him describe alpha males as a reaction, primarily from fairly well off white men, to a sort of toxic femininity. He asked me what I think of the concept.
My initial reaction was “I think it’s all a bunch of bullshit. I mean. what the hell is an alpha male anyway?”
Society, marriage and ‘the system’ explained my friend, are, according to alpha males, rigged to suppress and take advantage of men. My eyebrows started rising. I kept listening, because he’s a smart guy (a very well read, very well educated, well travelled medical doctor who has taken part in a lot of charity work and done a great deal of good).
