Time to start running?
I want a six pack, but do I really want to go running?
I hate doing cardio. It’s boring and it takes a long time. I’m also convinced it slows down recovery form my resistance workouts, which I love. I love getting stronger. I’ve only been lifting again for about three weeks, I’m already much stronger and visibly more muscular, but still I look terrible. I’m too fat.
A few years ago I was very well conditioned. Regularly going to jujitsu and ninpo classes, running up and down stairs and pounding the pavement. That was before the world was turned on it’s head by Covid 19 and some very limiting injuries and ninjaries (physical harm attained in the dojo). Now the thought of lacing up my running shoes and getting out in the street is about as appealing as rubbing salt in my eyes, or sitting down to watch daytime television.
Jumping rope is a bit more appealing. But once again, the boredom factor is too great a cost of entry. Twenty minutes with the skipping rope is definitely tougher than 20 minutes running, but finding the will to do it is scarce. I get hot and sweaty very quickly when I’m skipping and I have to do it out in the fresh air. Living where I do, unless I’m in full length sleeves and bottoms, I’ll get eaten half alive by mosquitos. So skipping is even less appealing than running.
