Racism or Peace?
Hearing racist world leaders talk about peace is starting to make my stomach turn. It’s like listening to lambs bleat endlessly about the need for more abattoirs. Peace is the last thing they want, but we’re meant to believe otherwise.
Chief amongst the bleaters is Benjamin Netanyahu. He has lied for decades about his desire for peace and security whilst craving war. The historian Max Hastings recalls how he listened to Netanyahu speaking fifty years ago at his dinner table “with crawling dismay” as Netanyahu said “In the next war, if we do it right we’ll have a chance to get all the Arabs out.”
When Hamas offered a ceasefire in the current war, and the release of all Israeli hostages, Netanyahu rejected it. He doesn’t care about peace, and he doesn’t care about the safe return of Israeli hostages. Netanyahu is motivated by killing as many Palestinians as possible and having all of the land in Palestine under Israeli control. It’s a desire motivated first and foremost by racism. When he was talking about a war to drive out all of the Arabs, Netanyahu also grinned and said that North African and Yemenite Jews are “okay as long as they’re led by white officers.”
Israel and those who provide diplomatic cover for Israel tell us that the only victim of racism in the Middle East is Israel, and any criticism of Israel is a form of anti-Semitism. In the United Kingdom…
