The Decline of Western Civilisation

The United Kingdom is no longer the well-regarded powerhouse it was at the end of the last millennium. Just over five years of bad decisions and worse politicians, combined with a rabble of citizens willing to believe anything the tabloids print, seems to have kicked the country into a long-term decline.

Along with their brazen dishonesty, double standards, impunity, and rabid avarice, the ruling class is more openly racist than at any time in at least four decades. The second half of the twentieth century offers up a treasure trove of xenophobic quotes from British politicians; Margaret Thatcher’s ‘at least there aren’t any Paki’s here’ at a speech given to investment bankers and Harold Wilson’s euphemistic ‘social democrats made the desert flower’ comment about the ethnic cleansing of Arabs, both come to mind. For a long time, Britain seemed to be getting better. But how easy it is to slip back into the muck.
