Those perfect lines
That came last night
As I was falling asleep.

I’ve forgotten them
Can’t get them right
So I’ve resolved to keep

A notebook with me
All the time
So I can capture them.

I’ll be ready to write
Those perfect lines
If they ever come again.

I’ve forgotten how
I made you smile
I still recall the scene.

You lit me up
And while you did
I saw what it had been

That I had lacked
But never known
It never occurred to me

I barely lived
Before being shown
How perfect things could be.

And now I’m sleeping
I recall
The perfect thing we shared.

What perfect lines
Could I have written
Before you disappeared?
