Loving Someone

I tried to realign myself
In light of what you said,
But history rhymes and I revert
To loving you instead.

You continue unconcerned
As if it wasn’t you,
Old habits bite my raging tongue
Now all the flesh is blue.

Am I even here at all
Or is this all recorded,
A video of the part I played
And all your sins rewarded.

I meant to cut my ties with you
Now I’m surely hated,
I hear my voice still praising you
When you should be berated.

Have I become so impotent
Before the shrine of us,
Nothing makes a fool of me
Like loving someone does.
