Shouldn’t it be reasonable to think that lynching doesn’t really happen anymore, certainly not in advanced countries? It should be, but it isn’t. Lynching happens, and not just in little countries with broken economies and no apparent rule of law. Lynchings happen in some of the most powerful countries on earth, with some of the biggest economies in their respective regions. Lynchings happen regularly.

Wherever there is deep and extreme racism, there is lynching. Racism has gained a foothold in the twenty first century thanks to the election of world leaders who practise an overtly toxic and xenophobic intolerance.

According to www.worldpopulationreview.com the most racist country on earth is India (and has been since 2016). Once the shining star of South Asia, India has lost a great deal of it’s lustre since the election of Narendra Modi, whose right wing BJP party rose to power on a tide of racist euphoria triggered by the destruction of an ancient mosque.

Last week, a video was released showing a gang of Hindu extremists beating an elderly Indian Muslim, forcing him to chant Hindu slogans, and cutting off his beard. The gang also boasted about the Muslims they had killed.
