If I Was a Pigeon
If I was a pigeon
Would I have a religion,
Would I ponder upon
My species origin?
Undertaking ablutions
As pre-emptive solutions
For feathery sinners
And their moral pollutions.
Would I have free will
Would it be okay to kill,
Would I sacrifice worms
At some heavenly till?
Paying my way
Praying some day,
I’d go to heaven
And be there to stay.
But pigeons are free
As I’d like to be,
And pigeons can’t kneel
Before some deity.
They only have flight
Pigeons cannot recite,
I don’t think they think
About what’s wrong or right.
But if we’re created
Why be separated?
God should be loved
And the unholy hated.
If we’re all made by the same
Whatever God’s name,
Pigeons should be religious
Can someone explain?
