I Became a Terrorist

This year, on the eve of my birthday, something I had never even considered a possibility occurred. I was taken completely by surprise. At the end of an excellent evening celebrating with my dearest friends, I became a terrorist. There was no warning and no apparent triggers.

What happened?

The last five years have been difficult. My business had collapsed and I lost all of my money. I got a job, and just as things were getting better, Covid sidelined me for nearly six months. Every time I got a break, something else went wrong. It had taken a toll. I only just pulled through, thanks in no small part to the support and encouragement of my friends.

Many of those friends had been on their way to celebrate my birthday half a decade earlier, but the party had to be canceled. Instead of showing up, I was obliged to spend the night locating my vehicle and getting it out of the car pound. For a few hundred pounds, I purchased the right to drive home, despondent.

This year, my birthday get-together was infinitely more successful. I arrived, to start with, and so did my friends. As soon as we were together, the good times were rolling. Good conversation, lots of laughter, and a great atmosphere. We were like butter and jam on warm toast, absolutely great every single time, with no need to try.
