A poem about my weight gain

Fat beast,

Unleashed,

Another breath,

Another feast.

Chocolate cake,

Seals my fate

Where I tread,

The earth quakes.

Massive moobs,

Endless chins,

Hefty weight,

Does knee joints in.

My belly grows,

My heart slows,

Struggling,

Against the blows,

Of gluttony,

I’ll never see

My feet again,

Please set me free.

Please cut this rope,

Before I’m done,

I can’t get up,

I weigh 5 tonnes.

In the first few months of lock down, I found myself quickly gaining weight. Piling on the pounds has never been difficult, I love food. Given my family’s history of diabetes, obesity and heart disease, I also know the consequences of over indulging.

And over indulging was far too easy. Stuck in the house I was never more than a minute from the fridge, my friend and therapist. The biscuit tin and I…
