Deep seated issues

A poem for outsiders

Deep seated issues,

Apparently he can see that,

After our initial conversation,

Who thought this was a good idea?

Back at work the game is on

Players in full swing.

I turn back towards the outside

To find my solitude.

So how would you prefer,

To live your life in bliss?

It takes time to reach a height,

Then all you see are voids.

And you’ve only just arrived,

Still you’re sure you know it all,

Busy chasing every wave,

Only skimming surfaces.

As suggested in the morning,

I was sure I was invisible,

Or silently derided,

Paranoid and angry.

“Maybe you should take a break,

It did me a world of good.”

Maybe I should demonstrate,

The rage that you inspire.

But later I was laughing,

I kissed my daughter’s forehead,

Amazed by what I have,

Sleeping bodies in my arms.

So how would I prefer,

To live this life tomorrow,

Glistening in the sunlight,

Or deep beneath the seas?
