What would you say to me my friend
If you were close enough to hear me?
Maybe we could talk and laugh
About the absences that scare me.
We never guessed we’d ever wonder
Whether we could carry on,
I never stopped to think about
What I’d do when you were gone.
Each unsaid farewell divided
What remained was much diminished,
Each unknown surprise departure
Left things abandoned and unfinished.
