America seemed so cool
What people are really thinking
After reading my last article about gun crime in America, a friend of mine messaged me on WhatsApp. We spoke about the article, and moved on to other topics.
It was a private conversation that really resonated, and I think it sums up how a lot of people think. So, I’m going to un-privatise it. Maybe it will entertain you.
Enjoy.
“It’s odd to think, as a kid in the 80’s, America seemed amazing and a great place to live. As an adult it looks completely fucked up. Issues with guns, the opioid crisis and recently abortion issues. Suddenly it’s not the land of the free, and makes Brexit Britain look almost normal.
If Arnie was a teenager today, would he be thinking, fuck am I going to America? Lol”
“Excellent point”
“I don’t think the American dream is truly alive either, I bet it’s near impossible to start out with nothing and make it. The wealthy elite close the doors and widen the gap.
Which is true of this country as well really.”
“More so than at any time during our lifetime. I understand why people are striking.”
“Did you read about British Airways?”
“Nope.
Apparently there’s a cost of living…
