America is not a democracy

It’s an auction house

The world made sense in the 1980s. There were a few axioms that summed everything up; the West was the best, and America was the greatest. It was the land of the free, and the greatest democracy on earth. But that was forty years ago, a lot has happened since then.

Liberty and Justice for all…

The pledge of allegiance is an emotional thing. For millions of people, it represents the values underpinning what was meant to be the leading light of the Western world. But for millions of others, it represents something entirely different. The American dream was just that, a dream. But it endures as a concept because it appeals to our better natures and the idea that all people have a shot at being great, the belief in a meritocracy with equal rights and equal opportunities. And that’s where it all starts to go wrong.

Not long ago, I’d have been labelled crazy, or a terrorist for pointing out something that the whole world knows is the truth. But the world is a little less Orwellian than it was not so long ago, I hope. The United States of America did not fall out of the sky, populated with beautiful pale…
