I want to write a story
That pays off all my debts,
So I can tell them honestly
That I have no regrets.

I want to write a poem
That gets a million views,
So I can tell my friends
That I had to pay my dues.

I want a total stranger
To give me funny looks
Then say “You’re my favourite writer!
“I’ve read all of your books!”

I want you to know my name
And escape into my words
And say the stories that I tell
Are the best you’ve ever heard.

I want to leave behind
Something that will endure
I want to leave the reader
Always wanting more.
