A Life of Ease

I still like the notion
Of a life of ease,
But I’m sharing life with people
Who are difficult to please.
I still want to be good
Enough so I could teach,
But it's hard for me to grasp
Things beyond my reach.
One should exceed the other
Which is exhausted first?
Short of sight or short of reach
I don't know which is worse.
The stretch is never easy
I must remain committed,
Learn to love discomfort
All of my ease omitted.
All of my desires
Lovingly discarded,
For those I please instead of me
I keep my secrets guarded.
