3 tips for better sleep

How I sleep like a baby every night

Left to my own devices, I’d be nocturnal. I’ve always been a night person. Up until my thirties, I’d often miss a couple of days of sleep each week, just, so I could do what needed doing during the day, then be myself at night. When absolutely necessary, I’d lay down and sleep for an hour during the day. But eventually, the world caught up with me and I had to adapt. I stopped working for myself and got a job, I got married and I had children. Setting my own hours and always doing my own thing was no longer an option.

To make sure my wife gets breakfast, to make sure my children get to school on time, and to show up for my job every day, I have to sleep at night. And even though good, regular, regimented sleep might be contrary to my natural inclinations, I know there are benefits, and I do it easily. But I had to learn to do it, and along the way, I made the same mistakes that I see so many people I know making. Those same people tell me they wish they could sleep like me.

“You fall asleep so easily!” says my wife. “You’re much better at getting up than I am” she opines. “I wish I could sleep like you, I was up all night.”

By the end of each week, my wife is exhausted. She makes the same mistakes I used to make. My ability to sleep soundly and easily is not magic…
