Cardiovascular exercise can be a great way to lose fat. But most people get it wrong. Follow the tips in this article and you’ll be more likely to get it right.

Let’s start with a little background. When it comes to doing cardio, the idea is generally to lose fat by performing low-intensity exercise for a sustained period to burn calories. Calories are burned to create a calorie deficit. Fat is stored energy, and a calorie deficit is required for your body to burn fat for energy.

That’s the simple stuff out of the way. From here on, it gets a little more complex. And that’s where the cardio killers come in. Avoid them, and you’ll find it much easier to burn fat.

Overdoing It

A lot of people get carried away with their cardio. They do it too hard, too long, too often, or all of the above. Getting injured is a likely outcome of overdoing your cardio.

Legs are heavily involved in most cardiovascular exercises. Running, climbing stairs and cycling all rely primarily on leg muscles. Knee, ankle and hip injuries are all far too common with people who overdo their cardio. The elliptical is a popular cardiovascular exercise machine, but overuse can lead to shoulder pain.
